You are correct, 15's won't fit. This is why Ford changed the bolt pattern to 5x135mm from the old 96-earlier 5x5.5".
Plus the 97-up wheels are centered buy the hub, not the seat of the lug nuts.
I remember reading on this site somewhere that a guy did put 15 inch rims on his truck one time, but the brakes really beat up his rims. With how common 16 inch is now a days why would a guy ever go 15 anyways?!
i would just stick with 16s. im actually trying to find a nice set of wheels for my truck to help dress it up. i hate stock wheels! so boring, ick! im not looking for something too flashy, but enough to make the truck look nice. does anyone here have any pics of aftermarket wheels they have put on their truck? i would really like to see some so i can get an idea of what looks good on these trucks. i cant decide whether to go with some steel chromes, or alloys. what would you pick?
Metal, if I were you, I would get the king ranch rims. They are not too flashy, and they aren't dull looking. My 2003 king ranch has great looking rims. I would check on ebay for some, but make sure it is for the 2001-2003 king ranch. Those would look the best and I don't think the 2004-newer ones would fit.
I agree with oscar on this. The KR wheel is very nice looking, a 17" 10-spoke cast aluminum. These wheels were painted in the inlayed area of the five major spokes to match the lower body of the KR trucks which made this area Arizona beige. These wheels were optional on trucks other than the KR but did not come painted. The KR also has a flying W insert on the hub cap that the non KR models did not have.
