IN MY EXPERIENCE having to pump it like that is usually the brake booster. You can get a master cylinder and 'break' booster for around $100 bucks for both.

Pumping or "taking another bite", as it were, is just pushing more fluid out there to make things happen. IE: taking up space. (unless the MC is worn out. detectable by fluid on the face of the booster or a fading pedal with steady pressure at a stop) First, check for proper rear adjustment and the rear hardware to make sure the auto-adjusters are not wore out or frozen. IE: "increased space". Next look to the front for obvious problems like the the pad tangs wearing a notch in the caliper/pad hangers, thus preventing free movement. (been there on the latter)
Hope to have helped.

IF and its a big IF, everything is bled right and adjusted right maybe your booster is shot or there is something wrong with the proportioning valve. If you need a new booster you might as well upgrade to a 79 F-350 booster.

Before you start replacing expensive boosters do a booster test.

I say your problem is the master cylinder....a common problem.
