I have a '06 Explorer with 6,000 miles on it that has developed a rough idle that comes and goes. It will idle smooth as can be for a few minutes, then start shaking like it lost a plug or a vacumn leak. Then after about 30 - 60 seconds it smooths out again. It doesn't seem to matter if the air is on or not , in gear or not, etc. I haven't been able to determine a "trigger" for the rough idle. Has anyone experienced this or can explain whats happening?
Thanks, Huckster
The dealer had the car for a day and a half and found nothing wrong. I mentioned the intake o-rings and they said there was very little vacumn so that can't be it. I told them I would bring it back next week when it gets worse. If that's possible. Huckster
The dealer had the car for about two weeks and finally found the problem. The fan/clutch assy. was so far out of balance it would shake the fool out of the engine when it engaged. Thats why the "rough idle" would come and go. It took getting the service manager involved, but perserverance paid off. Its' fine now.
