i have recently gotten a 1976 F-150/explore with a 360
when i bought it was running and would idle perfectly but the the throttle body gasket was leaking alot of gas so i replaced the gasket and replaced the one directly under it and the carb to manifold gasket
get it back on my truck i think i have reinstalled it right heres the things.....
i tryed restarting it would run but not idle
so i figure its to rich the guy must have had it turned way up
that didnt do it... i messed around with it and leaning and riching it out could get it to run great
so i changed the spark plugs all new ones now it runnings alot better but still dose not idle very well i turned the idle up and can SOMTIMES get it to idle hardly barley it is idling around 800-1200 RPM before it was around 1000 but normally it will die out and some times back fire....
i can keep the truck running just fine i just have to be at 2,000 RPM's
i just need some idea's
- i am thinking about going back into the throttle body and making sure the spring and everything is in right but other then that i dont know where to go
Sounds like you're running lean, possibly from a vacuum leak. What kind of gasket did you use under the carb? It should be the tough thick kind, not the thin paper-like gaskets that can be found sometimes.
Also you said you replaced the gasket directly under the carb and the carb to manifold gasket...isn't that the same thing? What are the two gaskets you replaced?
Does your truck have EGR? '76 might have. If so, you should also replace the spacer to manifold gasket with the thick steel-woven type anytime you take the carb off. This is often overlooked, but removal of the carb decompresses the gasket and you can't get a good seal next time around with the same gasket.
ok now i have it running and idling great but on the top of the carb there are 2 holes on each side of the carb gas is coming up through how is it that i stop that ?
