Backwards Holleys

Why did Ford mount the dual 4 barrel Holleys backwards on (some if not all ?) FE's ?

I'm guessing to keep fuel at the rear jets under hard acceleration, even though jet extensions would do the same thing.

You know, I was watching Barrett-Jackson this year and they had a a Ford car with the Holley's backwards. I have been thinking since yesterday when I saw this post what the reason was and for the life of me I can't remember why. If it comes to me I'll post it.

I think the 2x4 427 Galaxies came this way.

In the 60's there was a rumor that Nascar considered running a race in reverse, so some mechanic thought it would be a good idea to install the carbs backwards just in case.
LOL!

I really think it was a clearance issue. The offset of the carbs, gave more clearance if they were on the other direction. I think I remember reading that somewhere.

Ford used Holley 4160 carbs on the dual quad 427's. They used the 4160's backwards, because the 4160's did not have metering blocks on the secondary side, allowing clearance for the distributor cap.

Sure does, They do look strange that way. I knew there must have been a good reason.
