I have a 2003 expedition with 106,000 miles. After about 10 minutes of driving when you acclerate on an up hill drive a rattleing sound comes from the suv. It sound like you have got to close to the edge of the road and ran over the warning ridges that alerts drives that they are going off the road. I thought that I have gotten to close the first couple of times myself, then I realize that I didn't. It only happens in overdrive and on any incline doesn't matter the grade. It is a 4x4 with a 5.4 if that information can help. Any input and advice will be greatly appreciated.
It very well could be torque converter shudder. If you havent changed your trans fluid in a while that could cause the problem.
The next time it starts shuddering, barely tap the brake pedal enough to get the brake lights to work, but not enough to apply the brakes. This will dis-engage the lockup in the converter.
If that is the problem the shudder will stop when the brake pedal is tapped.
