The "off" light refers to the overdrive. Are you hitting the button on the end of the gear shift? That button turns the overdrive off, but it will reset(turn the OD back on)when you turn the engine off.

That flashing OD light is telling you there is a problem and you should have it scanned for codes. Autozone now does it for free but I've heard of people having problems with incompetent employees, so you might be better off paying a few bucks and going to a quality repair shop.

ive done that. autozone canot do a1995 ,5.8 liter motor ive had it to garages, says no codes pulled up. lost gary. i really need is to talk to ford about this problem, or somebody thats had this problem, but no luck so far .

My 96 E4OD's problem was a short in the wiring harness under the dash by the strg. col. This seems to be occuring in a few B's/F 150's of these later model years.
It also eventually blew the fuse. Until it blew da fuse, the OD Cancel lt. would turn on and stay on; then turn off after stopping and shifting to neu. at traff. lts. or after turning eng. off, etc. Then it would light on again....
