Had it parked a couple of days, got back to it and drove it home and sounds like it's running under water...??... i'm thinking bad gas i'll try some "heat" or something first with a new tank...but just checking if anybody else had a similar problem.
thanks in advance
01 EXCURSION, V-10, auto, 4WD, 145K, straight piped, soon to have 8" lift and 38x15.5.
I cleaned the K&N air filter and will put some "heat", new gas, and new fuel filter tomorrow. hopefully that clears up the sluggishness/roughness.
With 145k...when were the spark plugs changed? Also...with a K&N filter...you should think about cleaning the MAF sensor. If it is dirty (from the oil on the filter...or just dust or dirt) could cause the PCM to try and compensate.
ok...today i installed the clean k&n, changed the oil + fuel filter, filled up the tank after adding some "heat" to it. it almost sounds if an engine is flooding, it's not making the check engine light come on but it's making a horrible vibration in the whole rig, like it's pulsing. but when you step on the accelerator it seems to make it go away. tia
My truck was 'pulsing' like you describe at idle, sounded like it was under water like you said. As soon as I gave it any gas it would run and drive perfect. It ended up being a crack in the rubber hose that goes from the pcv to the intake. there is a sharp bend in it under where the throttle cable attaches and it cracked right there.
Went to the dealer today for a recall repair, while i was there asked them, they thought it might just be plugs and wanted $328 to replace them.....i went to schucks and for $53 got some bosch platinum2, and also picked up a couple of the coil sleeves, i did it in 2 1/2 hours (dealer said it would take 4 for their mechanics) and the problem is solved....2 of the coil sleeves were cracked all the way through and undoubtedly causing the sprarkplug to be not getting any juice. Plus the sparkplugs i removed i believe are the originals and in VERY poor shape. I have only owned the Excursion for the last 20K. Thanks guys for your input.
biz4two....... I just noticed your in Albuquerque....i lived there for 4 years while stationed at Kirtland afb....real nice area....if you need a lift or such for your rig go see my friend Ron at A-ONE Equipment...he was on rhode island off of central but now i think he's a block west... Great guy and does a lot of custom rigs.
