Hey guy's,need some help and advise. On my 93 F-250 7.3L IDI, E40D EXT.CAB with 182,000 miles on it I recently noticed a knocking or tapping noise coming from the front end. It sounded like the radius arm bushing noise i had a few years ago in my gassers so i replaced them and at the same time the shocks also.noise is still there also there is a slight vibration or wiggling in the steering at mostly low speeds. I hav'nt checked bearings by taking the weight off the wheels and trying to wiggle them yet but was wondering if anyone had any ideas before i proceed?? Kingpins maybe?,wheels seem to be straight and truck does'nt wander.any help would be ,as always appreciated.thanks in advance.
Caliper pins will wear and you will hear a click when driving on occasion, they will also allow the caliper to lift and drop causing a clunk on braking.
Had a guy ask me the other day for the same noise that did not go away with applying the brake. Checked the caliper clips and nothing but nice and tight. Started to pull the wheel and I could turn the lug nuts with my hand. Spun them tight with the impact and checked them with the break over bar no more noise. This truck had aluminum wheels I think they were the culprit.
Many, many thanks to all replies, you guy's are great.turned out to be both the idler arm bushings and a slightly lesser degree the outer ball joints. appreciate all the input.
