why did they...

Why did ford stop making the 9 inch axles...they are some of the strongest stock axles i have ever came across....i know many guys running then in just about every thing...i just put one in a jeep XJ and we have smashed it on rocks and the rocks break and all the rock did to the axle was ding the black paint

The 8.8" is probably lighter and cheaper.

but still for a truck the 9" kills and is a lot easier to work on..
