Does anyone have a diagram of how all the lines go on this part. I am going to start piecing it back together soon. I need to know where all the lines run to. I know some run to the intake for vacuum, but want to do it right the first time. I hate to do things twice.
ksmith, I was wondering if you have a two speed speedometer head? if not your speedo will not be exactly right, if you do there is a diaphram on the back of the speedo head that works off of vacuum. if it is broken you will have a vacuun leak there and your diaphram on the rear axle will not hold. The vacuum line runs from the back of the twospeed switch through the firewall to the speedo.

That would be part# 4039-M in the diagram I posted.
I will check the speedometer as soon as I get a chance. I should be able to leave the restaurant at 4:00, because I think we served all of Massillon at lunch. It is the original speedometer so I think it will be correct. The part 4039 attaches to the back ofthe speedometer? So much to learn, but I am having a great time redoing this truck. Spent lots of $$ the engine alone now has $2300 in it. Here is a break down of engine alone:
engine rebuild kit $1082.00
Distributor rebuild $ 92.00
point,coil, condensor 50.00
Fuel pump rebuild $ 76.00
Machine work $ 612.00
Starter & generator 283.00
Clutch kit 278.00
total 2423.50
Me too! that must be why I end up doing things 3 or 4 times.....
Those bigger trucks can sure get complicated. I am learning alot from your posts and the answers to them. There's just so many things that you don't have to consider on a smaller truck.
I had an adapter come on a speedo I bought for my 52 project. From what I can tell, it was for a 2 speed rear axle, however it appears to be electric unit and not a vaccum controlled. When would they have changed over? I don't have a use for it, just kinda curious
if its from 52 it should be vacuum according to my shop manual.
I'll have to dig out the piece when I get home this weekend now that I"m curious. I know it screwed into the back of a speedo I bought off a larger truck and it had a heavy gauge wire running to it, and no sign of a vaccum connection that I remember. It's off a 51 or 52, not certain which.
