I have bought several OK vehicles and sold these in excellent shape and lost my but on the selling price. Keep saying I won't do it again..... yeah right.

Interesting statistic

I bought a 90 Bronco EB with 56K miles from a little old lady in Jan 01. Since then I am on my 3rd transmission($1000 for the first one, $2200 for the second which included a warranty which covered the third one), currently installing my 3rd 8.8 rear end (at $350 ea. for the first used one and $300 to have new gears installed on the current one that just went out), on my second t-case which cost $400 for a used unit, had the new AC installed for $300, new exhaust manifolds actually headers for $360, plus $400 in towing when the tranny and t-case went out. Total not including cost of vehicle, around $5200, plus new tires and regular maintenance all within 2 yrs. Try to beat that. PS, I paid way too much for it originally.

Interesting statistic

Paid $9000 for it, within the first month- water pump and Hubs-$1600 (what the hey), fuel pump-1100 (again what the hey?) airbag sensors-$500, radiator-$300, something with the tranny-$160,= $3660 in one month!!!. But I must tell you that the water pump, hubs and fuel pump had been covered by the 2-year warranty I came extremely close to not getting, I paid $1800 for it and pulled $2700 before it was in the computers and the outrages prices? I don’t know what the deal with that was but I ended up paying only $50 dollars total for the 3 things thanks to the warranty and it doesent have a limit on how much you can pull out of it so I didn’t argue the original prices but the other things are out of pocket And don’t get me started on the 93, but I still wouldn’t give em up.

Interesting statistic

I've been pretty lucky on my 93 so far (which is good cuz hospital bills were killing me) In the year I've owned mine I have

New fluids in both diffs and transfer case, transmission flushed, cleaned fuel injectors, and changed fuel filter-FREE (put in CV joints on the boss's car and he paid for it all!!!)=0
New starter brushes=$20
New front brake pads-$12.50 x 2=$25
New rotors with abs rings the second time=$35 for the pair!!!!
New front bearings, spindle nuts, lockwasher and oil seals (cuz the last guy that owned it didn't pack the bearings very well)=$70
New water pump and antifreeze=$35
New headlamps=$15
New hardware for topper (after losing most of the old clips)=$10
Used washer fluid tank (to fix the broken mount on it)=$10
Getting winched out of the mud=$200
Being reimbursed by insurance for the tow= -$200

Total=$220 over 14 months=$15.71/mo

With 5 oil changes ($75), spark plugs ($15), and tires ($350)=$660 or $47.14/mo

With extra addons (K&N-10, Headers not on truck yet-80, TB spacer-25, Hypertech Chip-50, Rain Guards-10, overhead console-30, floor mats-20, steering wheel cover-10, and taillight graphics-5)=$900 or $64.29/mo

I guess mine doesn't seem all that bad, but when you're trying to pay off about $150 in hospital bills each month on top of car, insurance, rent etc... it kinda adds up. But the best part-

Talking the cop out of a ticket for crossing over the center line by saying "I messed up my steering pulling my brother out of the mud"=PRICELESS!!!!

Interesting statistic

I just averaged mine out and it comes to $550 a month, that includes all upgrades, repairs, and purchase of vehicle. But now let's think about how much a new "equal to a bronco" would cost. Probably around $30,000, now add interest and tax title license. Prolly $35,000. Now lets divide that by 60 months = $583 a month. Plus upgrades like a 6" lift, 35" tires, blah, blah, blah = $4000. Divide that by 60 months = $66 a month. So your grand total comes to $649 a month on a new truck with upgrades. And this doesnt include repairs, that you will have to make after the puny 36,000 mile warranty runs out. So you have to think about all that before you decide to get rid of it. Just my .02 worth. By the way I have nothing against new vehicles, my wife drives a 2002 supercrew 2wd.

Interesting statistic

I feel lucky. I bought my 90 EB Bronco with a 351W used in 1997 with 40,000 miles. Since then I have gone through 2 alternators, 1 water pump, and that is about it (knock on wood). I am not counting routine maintnence such as brakes, new batterys, etc. Now my bronco has 120,000 miles on it and she it still going strong. The body is holding up well, but I have a little rust on both doors. Next summer she is getting a paint job, then after that I want to drop in a 351W with around 300 horse and 400 torque.

I bought my 92 in 6/02 with 140K. $6500. So far I have changed the oil ($20) and battery ($70). So I am in it for $1100/month.

Hi, I think you have to seperate out the parts that are expected to wear out and the stuff that is supposed to be "forever".
Tires, ball joints, bushings, alternators, electric motors, vacum lines, all door/window seals, gas tank, engine...you ge the idea. If it runs/moves/vibrates it wears out.
Frame, fenders, glass should not need replacement, but occasionnal maintence.
when I buy a used vehicle, the first thing I do is price in the cost of the replacement things that hadn't been done. ie weatherstipping, shocks, bushings, windshield wiper blades, motor mounts.....
Much of a vehicle cost is maintenance. Which is usually not performed.
and I sometimes figure in an engine rebuild.
