My Np 435 tranny is seeping gear oil out from under the rubber boot in the cab. It is not a lot of oil but it is a bit anoying. Should the boot fit tight enough to seal this or is this normal for this tranny.

The boot is supposed to fit tightly around the shift lever. Ford doesn't call it a seal, but if it's worn, it's possible oil is finding its way up the lever, then onto the floor.

It is filled to the proper level ( a bent finger tip below the threads of the fill hole)
I think I might try a synthetic gear oil to reduce foaming, but these old trannys probably have a lot of splash to get everything lubed.
