I have a 1977 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 351M and a c-6 transmission. The only problem is it has 33s.I want to haul deer corn with with my trailer so I don't have to make two trips. So I am considering getting a hitch reciever so I can use my truck to haul the corn on the trailer. But before I invest in a 150 dollar hitch i wanna know is 4500 total trailer weight too much for my truck.Like I said its a 351m and a c6.i think it has 3:50 gears whatever came with it from factory.i have trailer brakes,so the only question is dose my truck still have the muscle. If it matters I have a Heavy duty auxilary tranny cooler installed.
you'll have no problems with muscle. Before I acquired it, my 76 f150 frequently hauled my uncles 26' fishing boat (not light). It does have a 460, but it is tired.
i have the same truck with 35's and 4:11's, c-6. towed my dad's 73 f-250 high boy on a car hauler almost 80 miles (from back woods of troutlake to camas) that has some good grades up and down hills. some of the really steep long hills it was a slow go but we did it. just watch your gages and dont push it! these trucks can do more than we think. im thinking about air-bags to keep the truck level when hauling heavy loads
If you have any problem with it boging it down during take off ,why not get some old steel wheels with stock tire to use when pulling? It will give you alot more take off.I noticed quite a bit loss in take of switching from 32s to 33s.
