Hello, I have a 99.5 CC 4x4 LB 7.3 I just swaped engines for a newer 2000 engine. I just installed the pod gauges (pyro, boost, trans) from deisel manor which is a great setup and installed perfectly. Wondering what normal readings you should see on a stock engine setup. My pyro is 250* at idel and 700 - 800* 65 - 70 MPH. Boost is 3-5 at hyw speed and if I floor it I see about a max of 15-16 psi. Trans at hyw speed is 150-160* and in the city it got to 190*. This tranny I have no history of service and the truck has 198,000. The tranny seems to work with no problems but the fuild is a little beteen red and brown. I was planning to change the filter and fuild with regular mercon. Do you all think the readings Im getting are normal and is it safe to do a fuild change with no problems or do you think it risky to do so and is mercon good to use. I plan on pulling a 10k goose tailer. THANKS.
Your gauge readings are pretty close to what my 2002's are, essentially stock. However, not sure where you live, but my trans temps have not run above 100 in several weeks........fairly cold here!
You should definitely change your trans fluid and filter. There is a good set of instructions in the Articles/Specs section of the website.
the tranny temp seems a little high to me. unloaded ive never seen over 125 in the winter, and never over 140 in the summer. like said above id change the fluid and filter
At 55-65 degrees F, I still don't think you should be running as high as 190 ( I think I remember you saying that), unless maybe you are towing hard. I've seen it posted by many that a 'general' rule of thumb is 75-100 above ambient temp, depending on what you are doing.
On boost, I typically run 0-5 just commuting around town. Possibly between 5-10 or 12 if I'm merging into traffic or getting around a truck, etc.
Pouring the coals to it, up a mountain, towing my travel trailer, I've seen up to 18-19psi. Of course, I'm keeping an eye on EGTs while doing that, so I'm not going for broke either.......
Highly reccomend that you use Mercon V for your tranny fluid change! Ford recommends it too. If it isn't too late, it'll get rid of that annoying shudder at 35-45 MPH
