Intercooler?

Hey Guys, I Posted on here a couple weeks ago about a new truck i want to get. Ended up falling through due to my Dad saying no! So now im waiting till after March to get it. Right now im getting ideas through my head. I have 10000 to spend. THATS it. Which i think it might not be that bad. I want to mod it! Theres no if ands or but. Except for one thing. Im going to Lincoln tech in Indiana and im in The lower easter part of Michigan. Its about a 5 Hour drive. Im just wondering how the mods will effect my gas milage. Heres my list so far. I went to Diesel Manor and i found some pretty cheap guage. 212 for all three. Not bad. They dont have the A-Pillar pods like what my dad has there so i went to Pure diesel and they have them. For the Air box i want the AFE Stage 2. And exhasut..... Im obsessed with stacks! I want those so bad. So pure diesel also has 5 inch stacks. Thats a must for me. And for the chip im going to DP-tuner and getting as many options as i can. All the mods il be in the price range of 1800 bucks. Not bad for Gut wrenching performance! Now heres my main question... Has anyone ever put an intercooler on there Heavy Duty? I really love the idea of one saying i know how hot these engines get when u got the petal to the floor. Has anyone ever used a 1999-2004 Intercooler? I noticed i will need a different turbo set up. This is just some ideas so pleace chime in! Also tell me how the mods sound. Anything else. And o by the way. That leaves more than 7000 for the truck! Not badd. Well thanks again

King, glad to hear you say gages. That's the 1st thing to do so you can monitor your investment.

I use the kwik filter instead of the AFE. Saves a bunch of $$. Not a real perfromance mod but will keep the EGT's down. Same thing for the DP and stacks and inter cooler. MPG, you might see 1-2 at best. The intercooler is pretty srtaight forward. Losts of info on this site about the 7.3 or 6.0 into an OBS truck.

DP chip on the high setting will make the MPG go down the tubes, but you already know that.

Don't forget to save $$ for your tranny if it's an auto. Bigger cooler for that too.

Have you found a truck yet? or just starting to look.

Sounds like you got the right idea. The stacks will be nice. Im wanting to do that myself but just cant do it right now. I have seen the 99-03 intercooler put in before. There are a few places out there that sell a kit for this but cant remember who it was or what it cost. Yep a cooler for the tranny is a must. Got to watch the power if you ever pull a big trailer, the tranny might not hold up to it. A good sonnex valve kit or complete valve body will help that along with a new TC, or go for it all and get a bullitproof trans all together. Man once your hooked it will be all you ever want to drive

Thanks, Yea i know that if i put it on the 140 my mpg is gone. I think to play it safe i will go no more than the 100 hp tune. And when i travel i will be on the Econ setting. And yes! The first thing im doing is guages. I installed them on my dads 02 superduty and i think thats the best thing ive ever bought for any of my vehicles, and i restored Two! Hes got exhaust and guages hes saving up for a DP Tuner also. Its kinda a brawl between him and me lol. Who can make the baddest truck, but he dont know how to turn on a computer and i got this site to help me out. Now with the 94-97 truck the only thing im not really happy about is no intercooler. I will probably add one after i get all the other mods done. I know that this truck is gonna go to gether fast when i got 10000 in my bank. I will be looking for a truck after march 20th. And i started to look a little bit. I almost had my dad convinced on a truck from florida with low miles. He didnt want to buy anything he couldnt see first, and i was planning on paying him back when i got my money. But o well. On his way to work i guess he said that theres a nice truck for sale. So il go take a look at that today. And now that u mention the tranny, im gonna look for Coolers (BIIIG COOLERS). Thanks alot

LOL O i bet, Im in love with these powerstrokes! My buddy has a 02 explorer and his gas froze. So i had to pull him about 8 miles with my dads truck. WOW these things pull, I couldnt even feel him back there. And also my tranny temp guage works cuz that moved a couple degrees. So that should tell me that i need to watch those trans and over heating. I dont pull a trailer, i want it for Black smoke, Speed and i might pull it in the truck and tractor pulls. I gotta beat the cummings and i know thats gonna be hard but idk well see Ive thought about the chip, and i would say the only reason why i want one is because of the smoke. I dont know about speed. My age and a ticket is no good news. So far so good but knock on wood. I would put a bullitproof trans in it but that takes away from the money that i would have to spend to get a nice truck. Im also looking at the injector rebuild kits from DIY injectors. Very interesting sounding!

Ya the bullitproof trans are a killer. I would love to have one. Ive heard the DIY injectors are not that bad to do. If ya do pull the tuck watch that trans. Friend pulls his cummins and if it wasnt for me killing the trans i would love to beat him. But cant shell out the cash for the trans if i kill it. Wish i had the 5 speed on those days. The smoke is especilly nice when you get some *ss on your tail, just got to let them have it.
