Whatever though, if you guys want to believe this guy, that's fine, but if you go to a car lot and get behind the wheel of one of these things thinking its going to have enough punch to break the tires loose at 40 mph on dry pavement, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
Again, very VERY nice truck, I may own one in the coming months, but trust me, this is not a corvette sitting on a superduty frame. I'm sure it will pull anything you want, but it's not going to have that seat of the pants rush of power needed to take you down the drag strip.
I'm done with this thread, I believe I've said my peace. Everyone can make up their own mind....just let me remind you all of something:

So in summary, who cares whether a truck can break the tires loose or not, as a performance indicator. Personally I hope not, as it would indicate a design problem wiht transfer of power to forward motion. All of us with a certain level of maturity know that breaking the tires loose does not indicate anything. Way too many variables, not the least of which is, does the truck have the traction control option which is designed to back off the engine to avoid that very ugly phenomen of tires breaking loose.
And finally back to the real subject, of mileage and cost: My 2006 got a best of 16's empty and a worst of 7.9 hauling a 16K pound 48' enclosed race car trailer. My previous Gale banks turboed 7.3 got a best of 18 but was not a dually and also only got 8.0 miles while towing the same trailer but slowed down about 15 to 20 mph more going up each hills, then the 6.0 did. I don't expect much different mileage with the 2008 I am ordering but I do expect the same or slightly better, not worse.
Regarding pricing, the numbers don't lie. If you do an apples to apples comparision of the same items the 2008 truck has essentially gotten a little cheaper if you factor in the items that are now standard versus part of options. Most of the single options are the same exact price such as the upfitter swithes. The only item that went up significantly is the Diesel option. But it is less than a grand increase vuersus the $3K to $5K rumors and when you look at the 150 or so improvements and extra hardware features, I just don't know how they did it for so little more money.
Do I like the current truck pricing? Heck no. But the issue has been there all along including Fords competition. The 2008 pricing is not the problem. If you have a beef with the pricing, you had a beef several years ago.
My only beef is my personal timing issue of needing a truck before racing season starts and waiting for the incentives to start appearing. Obviously Ford is going to wait until the buying fever slows down a bit before they make any major incentives available.

Buying fever?????
Your observation is accurate except for the fact that they are not going to sell them for the 4-6k less than the sticker like they will an 07. Not until they sell all of the 07's. It is easy to justify your purchase after the fact, but the end result is who cares as long as you are happy with the deal that is all that matters and I am excited for all the 08 owners out there.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!
FYI They are on the lots here in Southern Oregon. They received 4 trucks 2 weeks ago and they are all still there they are not going to move much off the sticker price. They are getting test driven every day though. Just my observation is that they are very quiet compared to the 07 and they have less turbo lag other than that they seem similarly powered to the 06-07, My guess is that they will pull harder with the increase in torque. I don't care for the front end, but I do like the interior and I want one of the differential covers for my 06...

Looking to buy, concerned about MPG
I test drove one last Saturday, the guage said it was getting 12.1 mpg. that was a crew cab, diesel, XLT, 4x4. So what's the mileage like for those with 4x4 or do the people giving figures have 4x4?? I know the mileage is less, but by how much and what is average. Thanks.

test drive
I test drove an 08 250 extended cab short box AT with the 373. I test drove that right after driving a new same configuration 06 6 liter. The truck wasn't noticeably faster. . . boost was readily avaliable but never got above about 26 psi based on the boost gauge in the truck.

My '08 F350 is getting between 10.6 and 14.5 mpg for the first few tanks. Although I must say, I do a lot of idleing so I attribute this to the 10.6. It seems to get around the 12's to 13's with both city and highway. 80 miles per hour for a whole tank gets about 13.6 mpg.
I love the truck. It is awesome. Hopefully the fuel economy will get a little better after break in. I currently have about 1200 miles on it. As others have said around 40 is its power curve. Punch it while going this speed and watch her go.

our 6.0 with the looney tune from DJ wont break the tire loose after about 25 miles an hour. i did break them loose last may at 45mph, but this was in heavy rain and it ended up causing me to get sideways and run off the road, to avoid a small car, and through a yard off the road and into some small trees. It only caused 6800$ in damages. And to think that a 400 RWHP dually cant break the tires loose, but a 290rwhp 6.4 can break them loose at 40mph? HAHAHA
