I tested my 7.3 today and came up with 4 differant codes:0263/cyl.#1 not
contribution or balance fault,po266/cyl #2 not contribution or balance fault,p0603/internal ctrt. mod kam error,p0231/ fuel pump secondary circut low.
This truck was rolled over a few times but was still running and some what drivable after that.
I drove it home yesterday and it seemed a little rough starting out but ideled ok.
I haven't got a book on this truck yet and Iam not sure what a mod kam error is or a contribution or balance fault means
any help would be great.
P.S. I should be posting the pic's of my cab swap/welding job in my gallery soon.
The KAM could be from disconnecting Batts or having an aftermarket chip/programer
the Balance fault is a cylinder that is not fireing as hard as the others. Pull the Valve Covers and check the wiring, make sure a few didn't come unpluged during the rollover or it could just be coincidence and the harnesses are chaffed or damaged injector/solenoid.
I'll check tonight on the 231 cant remember off hand which circuit that is.
thanks for info.i'll check the harnesses before i bolt the front end back on.
i have been disconecting the batterys when i would start welding on the cab ,so since i'am done welding now i'll clear it and see if it comes back.
someone had mentioned that the harness can be picked up at international for $20.00 or $30.00 instead of the dealers $80.00 or $90.00 would anyone have a part#?
i only ask because i'am not sure if i will be able to fix the wire if it is chaffed.
thanks agian.......
P0231 indicates voltage was not present on fuel pump monitor circuit when the fuel pump was commanded on.
Possible causes:
open inertia switch
blown F/P fuse
open fuel pump monitor circuit
open fuel pump control circuit
faulty fuel pump relay Verify inertia was not reset without clearing codes.
well i just pulled the drivers valve cover off and all the wires and plugs look good,no signs of any damage to wires or any loose plugs.Iam going to test for ohm's next ,but don't know if I should use a mulitimeter or use my shops genisus scan tool ? the genisus can give me live readings while the truck is running.
My alldata sheet says a non-contributing cyl. could be 6 things,/broken compression rings, leaking or bent valves, bent push rod, broken rocker arm bolts, bent rod,or a INOPERATIVE INJECTOR ASSEMBLY.since I have the covers off any way Iam gonna just replace the injector assemby with new and retest.
thanks for checking on that 231 code!!!

well I didn't know injectors were so much$$$$.so I just double checked all the plugs, put the valve cover back on and retested it.
this time a new code came up po269(#3 cyl. not contribu/balance fualt)this makes 2 cyl's on the right bank and 1 cyl. on the left bank that are not working right. The truck seem to be running a little rich,so maybe the injectors are stuck open.
Wish i would've thought of that before i put the cover back on!,iam gonna switch'em tomorrow and let ya know.
let's just say the the codes stay the same for 1,2, and 3 cyl. after swaping the injectors. It would then be narrowed down to a bad harness or rings?
I realy don't think it will be anything like rings, valves or push rods with it only having 114,000 miles on the motor.
thanks for all the help so far!!
well after sucking out the fuel/oil that had filled the cyl's(with a trukry tube and a small piece of vac. tube)I swaped'em out and tryed starting it.
It ran for a few secounds then stoped and I haven't been able to start it since.I had cleard the codes before any of this so I could see what would come up after the swap. No codes for cyl#1 or #2 or #3 but I did get two new ones which are p1274 and p1670,now the p1274 is on cyl.#4 which has the injector from #2.The p1274 came up when I did a buzz test.
The truck can't start so I can't let it run to see what will come up on the scaner.
My buddy bill said it is just air in the fuel passages and to keep cranking it over untill it starts??
I have ordered two new harness for under the valve covers that will be here in 10 days,so i guess it's a waiting game untill then
thanks amiller93 for your help on this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It takes a while to get all of that air out of the rails. Crank 15 seconds wait 1 minute crank 15 seconds, ect. This will prevent the starter from overheating.
