In my hunt for my cold start problem in my 99, 4.0 ranger as you know I was told the ecu may not be function properly causing problems and not tripping a cel. I UNPLUGGED various sensors and didnt get a cel. I unplugged the maf and the egine hesitated for an instant and resumed running like before it was unplugged. i let it run for 15 minutes and a cel never came on. I read that it could be a bad ground connection on the ecu, dose anyone know where it is on my specific truck? I heard it was behind the head light, I have not checked yet.
thanks. I should got a cel in that amount of time right?
mike
Try unplugging one of the sensors and then starting the truck, turning it off, and starting it again. That will definitly give you a code if it's work correctly.
My PCM starting throwing false codes for the coil packs when it went bad.
Yes it usually has to see TWO concurrent drive cycles with the problem occurring to set off the light.
While anything is possible, I seriously doubt you have a bad computer. VERY rare.
Hint: These are bad for intake gaskets leaking vacuum. Once the vehicle starts to warm up, the seals warm up and seal everything up. The computer will not set a fault for the because it is still in open loop (not warmed up) while the problem is occurring.
Yeah I covered that in my other post. Once the engine starts the idle is fine right off so im not suspecting that. I have cleaned the maf, replaced the iac, ect sensor, iat sensor and fuel filter even ran injecter cleaner through it. New battery and cables, tried cycling the ignition 3 times and still cranked long and started stumbled died, most of the time on restart started instantly idled perfect. now that it is in 20s it fires instantly, even after sitting overnight, which was the prob under 20 degrees. I thought plugs\wires, but there is no sign they are bad, no missing or anything under load or at high speeds, mileage is about 16 in city 99, 4x4, 4:10 gears, auto. I heard that the tps could be going, but would it affect starting at colder temps and not warmer ones?
thanks, mike
