Ok, so I have been looking at trying to fix a rough idle problem for quite some time now, I've done the pull vacuum lines and plug the tree, then one by one put em back on, but that didnt show anything. So I started spraying light mists of starting fluid everywhere, and when I spray it near and into these holes in the EGR valve, the idle kicks up. Is this where my leak is? What is in there that would make it do that?
one of 2 possibilities
the vacuum diaphram is bad
pull vacuum line and block off
if idle is better replace egr
if not then valve may have carbon build up
holding it open and allowing exhaust into
the intake
to fix remove the valve and clean it out
or replace as needed
ok, pulled the green vacuum line and blocked it off. No different. Pulled EGR off and it works just fine, I can move the valve with little effort by applying vacuum to the tube, but there is a lot of carbon in there so how do I clean it?
More info on the idle problem....its not high, it sits at 1000 when I let off the throttle, then it goes down to 700 and starts sounding like theres a big cam in it with an extremely lopey idle, bouncing around from 600-800.
But when I pulled the EGR and put my thumb over the hole in the intake, the idle was fine and it ran perfect, so Im guessing it needs to be cleaned?

another thing to make note of here before bed, but when it had the really lopey idle in it, the exhaust smelled really really rich to me, any connection?
