my 98 expedition was running fine tuesday when I shut it off to go into work.. when I returned 6 hours later to start it up to go home the car ran like a few cylinders were not firing and it was poping threw the intake. I ran for codes on the snap-on modius I borrowed from where I teach welding and it showed cylinder 3 missfire and both banks running lean.. when I disconnect the coil pack from number 3 the poping goes away. .. This thing ran perfect up until this point. This truck is not beat on just daily driven 30 miles each way.. anyhelp would be much appreciated..
if its a coil on plug set up get a new motorcraft plug and a new coil from whoevery you buy your parts from.thats where id start.you could of gotten some mosture in the plug bore and caused a carbon trail on the plug.
ok switched injector out and it no longer is poping but still not running like it did tuesday morning.. I do notice a bunch of ticking now that was not there before. it may be a gasket leak?? from the backfire/poping before?? Any ideas as to the ticking??
Could the backfiring be caused by an intake valve being held open and the ticking be caused by a valve train problem? I really have a hard time with this happening between being shut off and turned on but that data fits.
well the deal is the exhaust rocker kicked out from underneath the cam.. I put it back in and it kicked it back out again rather quickly.. I am going to get a new rocker and tappet/lifter/adjuster and try that.. everyone tells me the head is shot. I just don't understand how that can happen in 1 day??? Anyone else have this issue??
I am now looking at rebuilt heads/ reman engines/ and junkyard engines.. either way it seems painful.. I hope a new rocker and adjuster will fix it??
