Sounds like my blower motor is going to h-e-l-l, any temporary fixes I can do to quiet it down and prolong the life a little more? Sounds to me like the bearings are starting to go.
does the '88 have the blower motor accessible from the passenger footwell or only from the engine bay? (i can't remember when they changed that)
if it's the former, simply remove the blower cover, disconnect the wires, pull the blower housing and motor. you can remove the squirrel cage from the blower shaft with the set screw if desired, then spray some lube into both ends of the motor shaft and reassemble.
i just did that on my '82 and it took care of a squeeling noise i had on 3rd & 4th blower settings as well as made it spin more smoothly at all speeds.
disregard if the 88 has the blower only acessible from the engine bay.
i dunno from that configuration...
You can TRY temp fixes, but the blower motors are only about 25 bucks at the ap stores... and it really is not hard to pull it with the airbox out of the way. just seperate the intake end from the filter housing, unbolt the housing from the cowl and valance and bend it out of the way. You really don't even have to take the hoses off.
Takes some "Finagling" to get it around all the coolant hoses but Ive done several of them.
If you cannot, then You might get away with detaching the rubber venjt hose from it, and spray some TEFLON spray (not silicone or wd) using the spray tube that comes with it as far into the motor as you can get, both towards the fan end and the tailpiece as well. I believe there is a gap in the magnets that run right along the bottom there...
Good luck!
No luck with lubricating the current one. I sent my father after one 60 miles west at Advance Auto Parts and the one they sold him doesn't even fit or look anything like the one I have so I picked up the one I had already ordered from Napa and it looks indenticle so I'll plug it in tonight and test it out.

Did you get the one WITH the squirrelcage? If not, be Vewwwwwy careful with that stinkin' CLIP. they break. I know. I did it. I noticed the new repacement ones had the set screw and a hole thru the blades to get to it. nicer!
Couldn't get one with a squirrel cage. The old motor was fried so I beat the living h-e-l-l out of it to get the squirrel cage off, and got a new clip from a friend who bought a squirrel cage for his ford aerostar (Wrong rotation though)
If you have a decent shop vac ya might suck out all the crud in that box too, and get a nylon brush in there to get the AC core clean as well... I know, I know... more work to do, but it does make a difference!
