You could probably put a threadlocker/teflon on there before screwing it in, but I didn't and I haven't had any issues with it yet. Just don't overtighten it! I just changed my oil tonight and that's one of the best upgrades for the truck!! It makes changing the oil a snap!! Have fun.

I just put mine on as is. No thread locker needed. It's been on for 20k miles and no problems. Works like a champ.

I need to ask you all a stupid question.

What's a "Fumoto Valve.. with free Spring Clip lock.."

And do I need one?

It's a replacement oil drain plug that has a valve on it that you can open and close rather than removing the plug. Here is a link to it on one of our sponsor's sites.

I am getting ready to order a couple today.

Do you need one? That all depends. Do you do your own oil changes? If the answer is "Yes", then the answer is YES!! It's great and makes oil changes a snap...not to mention, a whole lot cleaner.

Not sure if dieselsite is a sponsor here at FTE, but they are a great place to do business with.

1) I bought my Fumoto valve (without nipple) from them.

2) I bought my coolant filter from them (by the way, it's my pics they show in the 6.0L section of the coolant filter set-up @ dieselsite).

3) I bought my "brightbox" headlight mod from them as well.

Great site and great service.

I put my Fumoto valve in with their gasket. No thread sealent or tape. Just as you would with you normal drain plug. I just always check the valve for snugness every oil change.

Talking Yeah, I need one

I just ordered my Fumoto valve from dieselsite (w/free one day shipping). I also read about the brightbox. That's a cool trick! I want one (soon).

Thanks for the info, ya'all!

My oil changes (after this next one) should be a breeze.

Which Britebox did you get? The one that keeps the fogs on too? How difficult is it to install? I wish I had seen this sooner as I have just recieved my F- valve also!!

Cheers,
Neil

I purchased the "Model 7+FLC/5"

This is the model for my year and make of truck.

Yes, I wanted fog-light control as I have fog lights (wanted max output).

It took me about an hour to put, but space is cramped to get behind the fog-lights and headlight connection. I installed it behind the passenger side headlight and up by the window washer fluid. This protects it from water, makes hooking to battery easier and there is more room to work.

I fashioned a bracket to hold the kit from a 90-degree angle piece of metal. There a few photos in my gallery showing the install.

Check out GenosGarage.com as well for this item... they may be a few dollars cheaper?

Have fun.

Wink Here you go, from my gallery . . .

Here is an install pic of Fumoto valve and Bright box. Box is mounted on Passengers side fender, next to battery. I didn't get the fog lights included as I wanted to turn them off/on at will verses on all the time.

Ok...

I have the 04.. Would someone PLEASE tell me why the hell I can't turn my Fog Lights on only.. Why did Ford do this? I thought their switches were set so you could run Fog Lights without the headlights on.. I see trucks like mine doing it all the time.. Is there a different headlight assym?

Why would you want just fog lights??

They were made to come on only with the low beams for extra "low light" visability. When the high beams are activated, they shut off.

The Britebox mod/kit allows for the highs, lows and fogs on all at the same time if need. It gives better low-beam and fog lights for close up and the high beams direct more light down-field.

Not sure if there is a mod for just the fog lights, but it sounds like a waste of time to me and more time and effort than just the brite box mod you can buy (high and lows together).

I have the Bright Box w/ FLC on mine, I like it but may end up putting a cutout switch on the fog lights. I still have not decided on that yet though.

I saw a web page where someone grounded one of the wires for the fog light relay so that it operates independantly from the hi beams. It seems that the fog light relay ground ties in to the high beam indicator light and when hi beams are on it "ungrounds" the fog light relay, hence no fog lights. By making a different ground the fog light relay works off the switch only and is not cut out by the high beams. I think if I had not done it yet, I'd get the Bright Box without FLC and do the relay ground mod. JMHO on that one though.

As for the Fumoto valve, I will be installing my pre/post luber system at the next oil change. I will have a sample/drain valve along with a seperate filter for the luber sstem so changing oil will involve removing the pipe plug from the drain valve and cycling the luber so it pumps the oil out. I realize I'll still have to pull a plug, but I think it won't be as messy as a regular drain plug.
