i have posted my question before about my brakes. i am having issues trying to bleed my brakes in the rear. my front brakes bleed perfectly but the rear brakes barely have fluid. i was told on my previous post that i need to open up my proportioning valve for the rear brakes but there is nothing to open. it is just a block that has three brake lines that go to the rear. i am wondering if maybe i have a bad master cylinder. there is no damage to any lines anywhere and no leaks. i have a 1988 f150 302 auto. if anyone can be of any help i would greatly appreciate it.
there is a bleeder valve on there but fluid barely comes out. i was told that i needed to pull a pin out in order to bleed them but i have looked and looked some more but there is no pin on the proportioning valve.
that is the same picture that was posted the last time. no where on my brake system is there a block like that with a needle. i have checked at least 15 times and my buddy has checked about 5 times.

That block appears to be the brass proportioning valve. It can't be anything else. Maybe the aftermarket valves have a bleeder, but that I don't know.
That p/valve is located around where the left front inner fender apron meets the frame.
Is your truck 2WD or 4WD ?

yeah i know where the p/valve is but there is no pin on it. it does have a bleeder screw on it but when i open it up fluid barely comes out even with someone pumping the brakes.
1987/88 F Series trucks have different brake system than prior years, and it's different than 1989.
You have a brake anti-skid system...and no where in this system did I find a brake bleeder valve pictured.
I found the brake proportioning anti skid valve, but the pic isn't too good, so whether there's a bleeder there, I can't say. This valve is located on the frame below the master cylinder.
The above is a different valve than the brake proportioning valve=where the lines feed to from the master.

My '98 F150 is doing the same thing. So let me know what you figure out. THe front bleeds just fine, but the back just squirted out some nasty rust-colored fluid and then stopped.

On a BII I would tell you to remove the ABS valve near the left rear tire and clean the screen on the inlet line and then bleed it and the system. The ABS is separate from the port. value up front. I have not done that on a 1998, but, if you have ABS that would be the first place I would start.
well i have been working on my truck for a few hours now cleaning the brake system and changing parts. i put new brakes on the rear and put on a new master cylinder. unfortunately the new m/c has different size fittings for the brake lines so i will have to go tomorrow and get adapters for them but so far so good. i pressurized the brake lines with air to see if there were any leaks and that was successful and i am getting flow all the way to the back now. once i get the m/c connected i will bleed the system a few times and see if i fixed the problem. any more input is greatly appreciated.
i put new brakes on the rear, rebuilt the wheel cylinders, changed the master cylinder and cleaned every part there is on the brake system and now my brakes work better than any new vehicle. i am not sure what exactly fixed the problem, probably a combination of everything, but i am glad it is fixed now. thanks for the relies.
Sorry to cut in but STUART1 what book did you get that picture of the proportioning valve from??? I am having problems with a hard pedal and weak brakes after doing the Bronco /F-350 brake upgrade. I have bled the entire system and adjusted the rear drums numerous times with no change and am wondering if it could be the proportoining valve. I went to Ford and they do not have or sell the small tool for bleeding the valve or have any instructions for bleeding it either. Any input would be appreciated.
