Flathead V-8 = 570 lbs
390 FE = 650 lbs

And my little 302 weighs 450lbs.

Same block and heads, basically same engine with a short stroke/smaller bore.

the 352 is a higher compression motor then the 360/390.
The 352 is quite close to a 360 If you bore a 352 .060 you have a 360.

Boring a 352 out .060 sounds like alot!
I wanted to bore a 390 by .80 to make a 428 with the 428 crankshaft but was advised against that.

or is it .040 hmm never been good at math. Really .060 is the max for a street vehichle any larger and overheating my become a issue. Most magazines sell pistons up to .060. (NPD for example)

I'll take a look in my book.

Ok Chiltons to the rescue,
a 352- 4.000x3.50
360- 4.05x3.50
390- 4.05x3.78

hence simple math .050 overbore will give you a 360.

when i was in teh FE forums there was something mentioned called the drill bit test. i thought using that test on a FE motor gives you an idea how far you can overbore (if its a good block) because from a semi educated perspective, a 352 could be bored to a 428, even though it actually cant.

theres so many goofy things about this family

yikes that one is out of my league. When you bore and get new pistons and all that fun stuff for a 352 would a motor loose that extra compression?

because Chiltons says the 352 is a 8.9 motor where as some of the late 360/390's were around the 8.2/1.

You got to remember that the 352 was discontinued before the smog regulations were imposed on engines.
