First oil change?

Hey everyone. First new vehicle here. Is it necessary to change the oil after the first 500 miles?

I know to do this when an engine is rebuilt, but do I need to do it with my new truck? 2007 / F350 / 6.0

Thanks,

Bob

IMHO--NO, although I don't know what the manual says. You haven't even got the rings seated good yet. I know the manual says don't TOW until after 1000 miles, and the general forum consensus is no synthetic oil until 10K miles (some say 30K). At the beginning of this forum section there is a tech folder you should read. It has GREAT information and experiences on how to do things from changing engine oil to flushing your tranny. Before your first oil change order a fumoto valve www.fumoto.com. Remove your oil drain plug and replace it with this handy little device--it's the neatest thing for changing oil in a long time.

I did my first change at 1000. Next one at 4000. The Blackstone oil analysis at 4000 miles indicated some high iron and copper from "break-in". I may do two more changes at 3000 mile intervals before going to a 5000 mile interval - depends on the oil analysis. I am using motorcraft oil 15W-40 and may change to a synthetic CI4+ oil at 10M-15M miles. 500 miles seems a bit early.

The differentials come with 75w-140 synthetic from the factory. I don't know what the recommended OCI for the diff's is. Maybe someone will chime in with some more information.
