this is the back of my tach gauge, i need to wire it into my 1970 f250, and have no idea how, i am going to run all new wires for this to the sender, how do i set it up to work? what does 1,8,b,and g mean?
At a guess Id say the G is ground, the B is battery, and the 1, and 8 are wires number 1 and 8, the 2 wires that go to the rpm sensor that sits on top of the timing gear cover, next to the oil filler neck. Again that is a guess.
thats what i was thinking, i just want to know which wire is which coming out of the sensor.......or if it even matters......also, id like to know if splicing the tach wires is going to affect anything, exspecialy at the gauge......
I dont think splicing the wires would hurt anything at all. The sensor is just a magnet sensor and it picks up impulses. Alot like a camshaft sensor on modern cars, or a crank angle sensor on modern cars as well, just a magnetic type sensor. Im not sure on which wire is which on the sensor though.... sorry
My 84 did not have a tach, so I switched over my dash from my 86 and hard wired the the tach....only 2 wires comming from the sending unit....I just tried different combinations till it worked.
well here goes i put a tach in my 85 f350 2x4' the dash wae not wired for one but the main wireing harnes was. the tach i put in was out of a 1989 it was differnt than the tach that goes in the 85'bigger so i cut the tach down and cut the inst. panel out so it would fit.on the back of the tach it had 3 prongs
ground G. battery B pos. 12v off of key switch and sender/witch is on engine
that leaves one wire from sender that goes back to ground turmenal on tach
then run a wire from the ground turmenal to chasse ground. i used sadale clamps on main wireing harnes and jumper wires to make it all worke.
