When I had my tanks down, I bent the arm on the sending unit so when the gauge said empty, it was time to put the walking shoes on.

I have to watch though, if I let the wife drive it, she always thinks E means enough.

Mine starts looking when the guage gets down to "F". Yes Not "E", but "F". She can't stand riding in my truck where the front tank always reads empty.

Q: "How far can we go?"

A: "Until we run out and you have to walk back and bring more"...

Well, going to "F" instead of "E" is complicated she should be all set then! LOL

Like my mother had a car back in the day that with that OD symbol then D and 1 she would only drive in "D" because that OD symbol was taboo in her world! Then try to explain it. OMG Deer in the headlights look.

My diesel, well, empty on the front tank is a 8.5 gallon fill... Rear is non functioning, and has been since I've had the truck...
My 460 truck, the guage on the front tank is deadly accurate, BUT, full is approx what would be 1/4 tank below the E, and bone dry, there had better be a gas station in the next 500 feet is 3/4's of a tank.... LOL

I had an 86 F250 4x4 w/460 and my front tank gauge was like you said deadly accurate. Plus that 460 liked it's fuel so it was always good to have a back up on board. Mine was the 4spd got 12mpg if I was easy and 0mpg if my foot got heavy.
