so i put new breaks on my 92 ranger v6 4x4 today. i also replaced the rotors. this is my first time doing it on this wehicle but i've done it on others. anyway the new breaks rub the rotors and it makes a grinding sound which sounds like metal on metal. not sure if this is because they're both new or if its something else. but it is def. the pads on the rotors which is making this noise. what do you guys think??
did u put silicone on the pads if not then they're gonna make some noise until they get the initial wear run through. brakes make noise it's friction. if it's not shaking and it stops fien then you don't have a problem
Did you put all the shims back in. The thin metal peaces that look like the brake pads. If not the brakes will rattle and move around. The silicone does the same thing.
there not rattling, i put the clips anti-rattle clips back in so they don't move around. i took her for a test drive and it sounded more like a squeel, but not very loud. when the wheel was off and i spun the rotor it was more of a grinding. i never had one sounds like this so i don't know whats up
its not in the rotor or anything, when i spun the rotor without the brakes on it was quiet, when the brakes were on it made the noise. then i took the pads off and rubbed the pad on the rotor and it made the noise. so its def the brakes. anyway i drove it around and used the brakes and it seemed to quiet down, i guess it just needed to be broken in, never had brakes make a noise like that though
yea i can't hear it at all now, and i had a buddy stand by the tires this afternoon while i crept past him and he didn't hear anything either. i just never heard it sound like that before thanks for all the help
