Radiator will not drain?

No fluid comes out of the bottom of the 92 ranger radiator when I open the plastic valve all the way.

Does this mean the bottom of the radiator is clogged with gunk? Is there a way to flush it & get it cleared, or do I have to pull the radiator?

-- edit ----------------------

I pulled the bottom and top radiator hoses to flush out the radiator. Water runs through the radiator with no problem, but I never was able to get the draincock to work.

The radiator seems to be working ok, it's just weird that the drain doesn't work.

Can you back flush the drain with the garden hose? Maybe somethings stuck in there.

if it looks like it hasnt been changed in years, tons of miles, i would be hesitant to take that somewhere long distance.

monitor the temp gauge(like thats totally accurate)

whats a new radiator go for for that year?
maybe a newer one from a junk yard, used parts depot.

might be the best bet if you cant get a through and through with fluid.

I worked on a '95 F-350 PSD this summer, and the plastic radiator petcock would unscrew from the plastic radiator, without coming all the way out. Once it was turning freely, though, it would pull out all the way with a gentle tug (it had an o-ring on it), so you could clean it better.

I do not know if Rangers are the same way, though, so if you try, be careful not to break any of that brittle old plastic.

Try opening the valve all the way and pushing a small wire up the tube back and forth. Soon the dirt will come out and then antifreeze. will drain out. Get the radiator flushed and put in new fluid.
