Flywheel & fuel filter change???

I'm starting to go thru my new '97 psd and I'm starting with all fluids. I changed the tranny oil and noticed when I drained the TC, it had a bolt as a plug, not a rubber plug. Does this mean I have a single and not dual flywheel? Reason I'm asking is when I drive it thru an underpass I can hear a slight whine that changes with the engine speed. I read that the dual was to help eliminate gear whine. Tranny seems to shift real smoothly but I'm a bit concerned.

When I changed the fuel filter, the orignial was a one piece lid and filter sytle. I replaced it with NAPA seperate lid and filter and noticed the cap came with a square gasket and the filter with a tapered gasket. Was I supposed to use both gaskets? I read that the tapered is supposed to be better but the recess on top of the housing was a square cut and I couldn't figure out how a tapered gasket would work. So I just used the square gasket only.

Good call, replace all the fluids and filters, piece of mind.

If you have a TC you do not have a dual mass flywheel. That is for a stick shift.

The bolt you found in the TC is a pipe plug.
The whine you hear is the turbo.

Use only 1 gasket. There is written instructions that came with the filter & gasket.
If the square cut gasket didn't leak, don't worry about.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that. I'm going to try an locate the whine while driving as I don't think it's the turbo. I can hear the turbo as well unless the turbo makes 2 different sounds at once. I've also had a number of turbo cars so I'm pretty familiar with that sound unless a diesel is different. My best guess is it sounds like a gear whine or like a belt that's too tight. A super charger comes to mind as well but not that loud.

Next is engine oil, coolant change, and rear differential. I think it's got a K&N and I may switch to the NAPA but that can wait. I think that does it unless I'm forgetting something. I'm like you, first thing I do when I purchase a used vehicle is change all fluids and filters first. Gotta have that "peace of mind"!!!

Does the truck have stock or upgraded exhaust? Is the K&N and open element or still in the factory box? The turbo is going to sound different inside and outside the truck, I can't really compair the sound of a gasser with a turbo vs the psd turbo, the diesel is just better
