I have a 2002 Explorer Eddie Bauer and all of the sudden when I pull my key out of the ignition my radio shuts off, my power door locks will not work, and my interior light stay on forever. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might start looking to fix this small problem? Thanks
Kurt
Open your door get a can of wd-40 and spray the heck out of the latching mechanism, open and close the door several times, spray some more and repeat and soon everything should start working again. The locking mechanism has a switch that gets gummed up and sticky and needs to be lubed up.
Redboat,
That did nothing. I understand about the radio and the locking mechanism, but how would that effect my power door locks not working when the key is out of the iginition? The the truck is running, power looks good, truck off power locks bad. Also another thing, with I try and unlock my doors with the key pads on the outside, my horn starts honking. It scared the crap out of me the first time! I am sure this is all tied together, just hoping for some help.
Thanks
Kurt
Also, spraying WD40 into any mechanism that is gummed up is a way to unstick it for the short term only, WD40 will the gum it up even more. If it were me I would use the wd40 to unstick it and then use something else to clean it real well (electronics cleaner or a spray degreaser) and then use a high quality spray oil (spray gun lubricant is excellent) to lubricate it. Too many people confuse WD40 with a quality lubricant... it is not.
