Hey, Again, i have the 89 302, and it seems like the throttle response is a little slow, i hit it and it takes almost a full second for it to finally take off on the rpms, thats when its at idle from a stop or in park, i really don't realize it when at speed, but can anyone help me on what this could be? or how to correct it
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Dec-02 AT 06:52 PM (EST)] try cleaning you throttle body with some STP. It works good to free up the butterfly valves. DONT use carb cleaner! Unless you have a carb... It will damage the coating on those valves.
Do not spray any cleaner into the throttle body while it is still on the engine. The cleaner will destroy the intake gasket. You will need to remove it to clean it. And while you have it off, I would suggest replacing the TPS. And cleaning the IAC. Note the exact position of the TPS as you can install it wrong.
And while you are at it, you might as well clean the air control valve on the right side of the throttle body with the same cleaner. I would also recommend using a natural bristle brush when cleaning the body because it is less likely to scratch anything. Buy the few $$$ gaskets for body and air valve while you are at it.
When I cleaned my TB a couple of weeks ago, it made such a difference that it idled about 1500 RPM's when warm. That's how dirty it gets in there. I adjusted it down to about 750'ish and now have a noticable throttle response.
...just a side note, summit sells a plug-in module made by Casper Electronics (I think), that claims it reduces throttle response lag time. It plugs in between the TPS (throttle positon sensor) and the plug for the TPS. Haven't tried it, but it's a thought.
yes summit has the part its 90 bucks. I would try and clean up the throttle body first to see results, then if your still not happy you could then buy the tps enhancer.
ok, thanx to all that replied, it sat for about a year so i am thiniing, it MIGHT be a little dirty in there but i am gonna get it up and running in decent order cause i hate not being able to turn the tires over a lil bit with my friends, i mean, i got pulled over twice, by the same cop, for burning tires and didn't recieve a ticket
