Just made a dump run today, was out by the pick & pull, so made a quick stop and found a slide in bedliner for my truck. $22.43 out the door. Finally, cover up all those rust holes. Out of sight, out of mind...
Truck looks good! If ya dont mind me asking after all was said and done whatd ya pay for the rebuild?....I may be looking at having to get one done myself.

Took me a minute to dig up the receipt...
The motor was $2267 including tax (5 year warranty & RV Cam)
The trans was $1657 including tax (2 year warranty, shift kit and just about EVERYTHING replaced)
Got me way in debt, but the truck runs perfect, so it's about even...
Well,
That isnt as bad as some of the crate motors I was looking at online yesterday...$10,000 for a 390???? Id rather shell out the roughly $3,000 and get back on the road haha. Luckily I may be able to avoid it still...but it aint looking good. I had some problems with it a while back and long story short....Im trying to trace a burnt wire from the coil to the starter solenoid..and all other kinda of typical 30+ yr old wear problems.
BTW
I guess wiring becomes an issue on these guys..I was at Pick A Part yersterday and every single one of the 73-79 Ford trucks either had already been picked clean of the ignition wiring or it wasnt any better than the "hacked and rigged so it'll run" one that I have already haha. Just a heads up.

I know of the engine electrical problems in the FE & the 335s. Replaced everything from battery to starter and battery to plugs on both my trucks. Still have an extra starter solenoid saved, just in case...
If you're not having serious compression issues, don't jump into a rebuild until you really have to (IMO). I did my best to get every inch out of my motor before investing in the rebuild. $10k for a motor? That's a joke. I paid $350 for my 400 and then spent the $2267 to rebuild it. Still under $5K into my truck, plenty more to go...
I have been getting plenty of smiles out of my truck lately. Finally, no more worrying about the motor and trans... Now I've actually been working on her appearance. Already ground out the rust on the passenger side floor, and primered it, painted the trans cover in the cab, new headlamp switch, added a tach, going to wire brush and repaint the wheels, bolted in the bedliner, doing some bondo soon, fixing my brakes, hooking up my KCs, etc, etc, etc. I'm loving it right now.
Chris - Check out "Wayne's Engine Rebuilders" in Riverside, CA (951) 684-2222.
They rebuilt my 351C for under $1300. Their price for a stock rebuild of my 351C was $1067. They re-used the block, heads, crank and rods only. EVERYTHING else was new. I also had them balance evrything. One year, unlimited mileage warranty. I had to bring them the engine. The whole job took one week. I haven't reinstalled it yet.
Thanks for the tip Randy...I'll give em a ring and look into it. I just have to decide if its time or not and I'm thinking it is...she keeps burning wiring and coils...leaks like a siv from the PS pump and the exhaust manifolds are still not right thanks to a couple broke bolts in the heads (not my doing grrr) haha. I'll end up keeping it around the question is how long does it have to sit till I get the funds to help her haha.
