I have an '01 Ford Ranger, with the stock 15x6 steel wheels. A friend of mine just pulled off new five spoke (15x7) aluminum wheels, off his new Jeep Wrangler. I can get the wheels/tires cheap. Thing is, do you think Jeep wheels would look stupid on my truck? Would you take them?
Nope...the hole in the center of the wheels for the Jeep axle is smaller than our Ranger's axle (which actually suprised me with how big it was).
If you have one of the decorative covers over the center of your wheel, pop it off, you'll see in the middle what I'm talking about. Looking at the Jeep wheels, you'll see the problem.
I'm sure a shop could safely do this for you, I bet you could even do it alone...but I didn't have the time or skills to do it when I saw the Jeep wheels (and brand new tires...32 miles on them...dealership to the guy's house), so I passed on them and bought new tires instead.
The hub diameter of the ford is larger than the hub diameter of the jeep, hence the need to bore out the center hole. Simply put the wheel will not fit if you don't do so.
After weighing it out, it's probably a better idea to get the uplevel Ford wheels for this truck (you're talking to a guy who doesn't even like to go aftermarket on things like radio's ).
Again, many thanks, for your replies helped me when making my decision
