i have a 02 F250 XLT and with the spare tire, you need a key to put on the end of the rod to lower the spare. my truck came without this, does anyone know a part number or were i cant get this because the ford dealership had no idea what i was talking about. its not like a real key, it looks like a wheel lock. its round and has a pattern on the end of it i need help please
Here is a copy of the "Paperwork" that comes with it as an FYI. . . It seems they make different codes so hope the one you two are discussing works in both trucks.
Yup! It wouldn't make sense for Ford to put the same key into every Superduty, for the same reason that the doors and ignitions are different. The keys are unique to each truck.
You need that Key Card code to order another key from Ford. Maybe you'll get lucky and they can look it up by VIN. But this isn't gonna' be easy, or cheap, methinks.
My truck was missing both the key and paperwork when I bought it so I had to call the company that makes the locks, they tell you which dealership near you has a master key set and you take your truck or just the spare tire hoist right to them and they will try the master set and order the proper key for you.
You can remove the lock from the winch end, then simply use the handle without the key. If you search, there is a thread on here somewhere that gives the details of how to do it. You can do this instead of buying a new key. If you go to the dealer, they are going to sell you a kit (key and lock), because they can't order the key for your lock. There really isn't a need for that lock, because not many people would want to steal a steel wheel/tire.
Ok, maybe I misread your post... I have both parts(key & lock). Sounds like you need just the key for your lock? I wonder if you took something like JB Weld and put a dab on the end of a dowel rod and stuck it in there if it would work long enough to lower the tire. Once you did that you could remove the lock. If you're still interested drop me a PM.
I had this problem with my newly purchased '01 , A member of this forum who had upgraded to larger tires sold me his spare tire winch and the special key that matched up with it. Maybe you could be so lucky, $35.00 shipped.
