i just ordered the new 250 with the v10 (hope i can afford the gas) you guys have any suggestions on improvments to get better milage--- air system, exhaust system bed cover etc. anything that might be worth the money
thanks
Jonesuh, just what kind of gas mileage do you think the V10 get? If you where concerned, why did you buy a V10?
Mine is 04 V10, average mixed driving is 12, best high 16, worst 9.5 pulling 8500# 5'er at 11,000 ft.
OK, put 14 of them there Tornado air twirly things in your intake tube, 17 magnets on your fuel lines, put Z-Max in your fuel and oil, and get one of them blue air filters.
You'll have to stop every 30 miles or so and dump fuel out.
There isn't anything really to do to the engine. There is no one making a supercharger for the V-10's anymore. Make sure to break it in properly and keep up on maintenence. Fuel filters are a big part of it.
Congrats on the new truck! Not too mch to do about the fuel economy, just the common sense stuff. Remember the number one factor in fuel economy is the driver.

I don't think I've changed a fuel filter in 20 years in 10 or so vehicles.
Way over rated maintainance item in my opinion. When I was in the business I would save them and cut them open. Very few ever had anything in them.
Now with plastic tanks problem is almost non existant.
Welcome to FTE! Don't worry too much about your mileage.....this is a great
engine and you will enjoy it every time you put your foot in it. Enjoy your new ride!
I don't understand these types of posts. Apparently you don't really need a truck if mileage is any concern. If you are hauling groceries and the kids, buy something smaller. If you just want to impress others, get the truck and pay the price. Why are there so many of these posts??? I know this is America and everyone is free to do what they want, but it seems to me many people make choices to "keep up with the Jones's" rather than to satisfy their own needs. Not trying to offend anyone, just my $.05! Pennies should be discontinued!!
i do need a truck for towing an RV i'm not worried about the gas (i live in Texas & do a lot of business with the energy companies) but i hope like everyone else i want the most from my vehicles ( this is my 4th truck but 1st 250) and remember gas is still cheaper than bottled water
In my opinion, there is nothing you can do to a gas engine (V-8 or V-10) that will increase your mileage to the point that the modification is economical or practical.
In other words, the modifications will take a long time to pay for themselves (even if they do increase your mileage) and may cause warranty problems.
Ford designed a pretty decent intake and exhaust system for your truck, despite what the aftermarket parts makers tell you. Stick with it and put the money into stuff you want for your truck, like bed covers, lights, grill guards and sound systems.
thanks i'm not very knowledgeable about engines--but i love my truck & have been a Ford man since 1974 really looking forward to the new 250 i'm taking you advice & sticking with the basics
