I replaced my TPS a couple of weeks ago and just read on a POST that it needs to be adjusted between .95V and .99V when hot and 4V at WOT. What is the best way to adjust it and what is WOT ? Chilton, Haynes and Mitchell don't really tell you anything other than it needs to be adjusted. I have a new TB gasket so it wouldn't be hard to take it off and put it back on a few times since it's not brittle yet.
Thanks for the help and Happy Holidays to All ! :-X12
Later ones aren't adjustable, but I think your '89 uses the kind with slotted screw holes. Just loosen the screws and turn the TPS slightly while monitoring the voltage on a meter. Haynes gives the pinout & procedure.
If the TPS has slots on it, then its adjustable. If it doesnt, it isnt. In the case of a non-adjustable TPS, if it reads out of spec at idle and wot, then its bad, and needs to be replaced. No sense in dremeling it, since theres something wrong internally. Certain years were adjustable, usually in older models. If the 5.0l truck was adjustable, more then likely, the 5.8l will be too.
