well i have had the hypermax max 330 chip in my truck since last october which is a 90 hp chip i think. i was very happy with it but all i kept hearing was how good dp tuner was so i had to try. i got the 80 econo pcm flash. there are some things i like about the dp and others i like about the hypermax. i like how the tranny shifts on the dp tuner but it runs a lot hotter than the hypermax did. it has been -10 here and with the dp i have seen tranny temps of 150 and with my hypermax i havent seen above 125 even in the middle of summer. i like the low end power of the hypermax better, but the high end power of the dp tuner better. i havent had the dp long enough to compare milage but i did just come back from a 700 mile trip and averaged 16mpg but it was well below zero. i was getting 16mpg towing 4 snowmobiles in the middle of winter with the hypermax so i think the hypermax will be better on milage because i was consistantly getting over 20mpg in the summer. just thought i would share my observations. i also have slightly higher egts with the dp and also some more smoke when the throttle is pinned. we will have to see how it compares once i get more use out of it. also the truck has 213,000 miles on it and i am putting a bts valve body next weekend so maybe that will help with the trans temps. just thought i would share my observations

i dont know which one i like better yet. im thinking of sticking with the hypermax for the low end and better milage yes i did have jody tune it for the bts so ill have to see how i like it after the valve body
It will be much better once the BTS VB is in. Jody warn people that when he tunes for BTS VB and its not installed yet to go very easy on it. I think it has to do with the line pressures and slippage in the shift which could account for your increased temps. I kno my DP?BTS combo is running about 15-20* cooler. If it is below 40 I cant get the temps above 106*F and before the combo would be running 115-125*F
i ordered my DP and BTS VB at the same time..the DP came 3 weeks befor the vb...i asked jody about running the chip with out the bts..he said not to run any thing higher then the 40 tow and to be easy in that...the stock vb can not hold the pressure the bts vb can...and when jody tunes for bts..the chip will up the line pressure for it

he told me it would be fine to run because he doesnt really increase the line pressures until it gets into the high hp settings like 120 where he really cranks up the pressure. im just glad i diddnt go all out and buy the f5 chip because im somewhat disappointed so far but we will see when the vb is in dont get me wrong it has a lot of top end but the bottom end where you drive around the most in is somewhat sluggish compared to my other chip
I've got the F5 and couldn't be happier..my 80 econo screams and roles out the black smoke..I can lug her down to 25 then ease into the throttle and hit 50 in a hurry with out down shifting or I can stomp on it and the tires try to brake loose and I hit 100 pretty fast with a lot smoke till about 2000 rpm's..the 120 race I got to be careful..my Trans don't like that one but has taken it well so far
I believe that if you call Jody and give him an honest opinion, but do not yell, he will do all things possible to make you a happy customer. Just tell him what is wrong, and i guarante he'll fix it.
oh i wouldnt yell jody is a great guy to work with. he always answered any questions i had and in e-mail and he even called me to make sure i got the e-mail i think im gonna wait until the vb is in and see how i like it before i call him and get a custom tune
i am sure the vb will fix the temp problems with the tranny. I have the sonnax and have never seen the temp over 140 (empty truck) even with the hot weather here where I live. I am willing to bet that its killing your mpg as well. Please update us when your vb is installed.

i just dont see how increasing the line pressure to the tranny can cause it to run hot. i would think that if you increase the pressure you are holding the clutches tighter and causing them to slip less. im just guessing here because i have no tranny experience but we will find out on friday or saturday when the vb goes in. does anyone know what size clear line you need to fit over the trans return to flush the tranny? i used the directions from this site but dont know what size line to use.
the clutches aren't were you build most of the heat, the TC, and the pump are the 2 biggest sources of heat, upping the line preasure makes the pump work harder increasing the temps.

oh ok gotcha. thanks for clearing that up. then how does a valve body decrease temps if the pressure will be the same?
