Just picked up my new 07, E350 with the 6.0 PowerStroke in it. I ordered it in September, it was manufactured on November 22nd and they called me last Friday, Feb. 2nd. that it was ready for pick-up. Over 2 months from date of manufacture till ready for customer delivery. Go figure why Ford is loosing money!
The good news - 1/4 tank of gas, sitting somewhere for 2 months (only 11 miles on the odometer so couldn't have gone far), the coldest day of the year (it was 2 degrees F this morning in Michigan), and it started right up!!!! A good omen I hope. Went straight to the gas station, put in 10 ounces of Power Service (white) and filled her up.
The not so good news - I opened the hood, just had to see how that diesel looked, man it's packed tighter than my previous V10 gasser. Planning ahead I tried to find the oil filter. It's right on top just like the book says. Looks like you can barely get in to loosen up the top of the filter housing- how the heck to you get the filter out of there?
Also - no "Power Stroke" emblems anywhere, another penny wise cost saving by Ford I suppose. Any ideas where I can get some emblems, just have to advertise what's under the hood!
One last question, I ordered it with the block heater. The owners guide mentions to use it if the temp is below 20F, but doesn't reference where it is. I'm expecting to find a pig tail sticking out somewhere but couldn't see one. Any pointers as to where it is located?
Thanks to all!!!!! I posted many dumb questions to this site before ordering my first diesel. You guys really helped me out and I'm truly looking forward to driving my new van.
Don't know about Econolines, but on the F-250/350 it's tucked up behind the the plastic fascia by the tow hooks on the passenger side. My took awhile to find. I'd start around that opening in you bumper................
Hey 88, Keep us informed how you like the Van with a Diesel...Not much talk here on them. After a while tell us the RPM at 70 and how the 3.55's pull if you use a trailer. Tire size would be good too. I know they derated them in a van in 04 when I looked. Thought seriously but bought a SB CC. Thanks and Good Luck
The oil filter is not in the engine compartment, it has been relocated by a couple of tubes and bolted to the drivers side of the engine, and has a 6mm allen plug on the bottom so you can drain it before removing the housing. The filter under the hood you were looking at is one of the fuel filters, the other being on the drivers side frame rail. You should find your block heater cord behind the bumper on the passenger side if you reach in the opening.
- Got the pigtail for the heater. It was tucked behind the bumper, right in the middle, just below the grille opening. It's not really visable and you have to reach around to pull it loose, but once you know it's there, it' easy to get to.
- Regarding the oil filter, you were right, what I was looking at on top was the fuel filter. The oil filter looks like it's underneath, right next to the oil pan, on the drivers side. Easy to get to if I'm looking at the right thing this time. Large hex on the bottom, but no sign of a separate drain plug. Am I looking at the right thing this time?
I ordered my 6.0 Econoline Dec 20 something and also got it first week of Feb. (go figga) They must have been waiting for some orders before they built them. I wasn't expecting it till the end of Feb.
Just finished my second tank of gas with my new Power Stroked 2007 E305 and got 19.2 MPG. That's driving in Michigan with the temp's between -5 and +30, about 75% highway, 25% city driving. I've got a 4:10 rear end with var. slip and LT 245 75 R 16 tires. At 70 MPH the engine is running at about 2,200 - 2,300 RPM. Does that RPM sound about right? Considering that at best I only got about 12 MPG with my V10 gasser, I'm definitely impressed!
Wher can I get some "PowerStroke" badges like they have on the trucks? Don't know why Ford doesn't put them on the vans, seems like it would be cheap insurance,
Thanks 88. I was hoping you got the 3.55 rear gears. I would like to put them in my 250. I'd like to see about 1800 at 70 instead of the 2000 now...Good Luck
I would have prefered the 3:55, but I pull a 10,000lb travel trailer in the summer and everyone (Ford included) said to get the 4:10.
Is the 2,200 RPM at 70 too high? This is my first diesel and I have no idea what they are supposed to be turning at highway speed.
