towing capacity for 02 F350 with 11' flatbed

We've found a truck for sale on the net that we are possibly interested in depending on the towing capacity. I've found a chart that shows the rating for an 02 F350 dualie with 7.3 diesel at 12,500 lbs. for a bumper pull. The truck we are looking at has a 165" wheel base with a flatbed and I'm wondering if the longer wheel base will lower the amount of weight it can pull? We've got a dump trailer that grosses at 12,000 lbs. so we are going to be up towards the top limit most of the time. John

I think you are going to be fine for a dually. You might want to weigh the truck to see how much the bed weighs compared to stock.

It looks like the weight of the bed is around 1040 lbs. according to the manufacturers (Knapheide) website. How does that weight compare to what a stock 8' bed weighs?

The amount towable is different then the GVWR or GCVWR. The manual claims the max weight for any 5th wheel/gooseneck being towed is 13,300 lbs., and 12,500 for a bumper pull. Doesn't matter whether dually or SRW, or weight of the tow vehicle. The law doesn't enforce that, so tow what you want, just be sure you have the proper State and Federal documentation, permits, and plates.

It would matter for tongue weight. Some of those flat beds are heavy.

Any idea what a styleside bed weighs in comparison to the numbers I posted above for the flat bed? John
