This weekend I thought it would be good change the oil in my 1995 E4OD transmission. I dropped the pan and put a new filter in. I did not drain the torque converter because I did not know to do this. I put the new filter in and the new gasket and put it back together. Well while putting the new fluid in the tranny started leaking. It appears to be leaking from on top of the tranny not the pan gasket. Well after reading the post on here I see that I might have overfilled the tranny because I did not drain the torque converter. What should I do now?
Least messy way is to get one of those pump gadgets with a long hose and suck the fluid out the dipstick tube.
If you are cheap and adventurous, you could just get a long tube and suck on the end of it to siphon it out. If you don't know what I mean by siphon, then don't try this, fluid tastes nasty.
The pump gadget can be as simple as one of those hand pumps for filling differentials and trannys. Get extra hose. Or you could use a electric pump gadget, or even a Mighty Vac.
If the trans is overfilled, try draining the excess fluid from the converter. There is a rubber grommet at the bottom of the bell, pull it, and spin the converter around to bring the drain plug down. Pull the plug and drain as needed.
