90 e4od fluid capacity

How much fluid must I replace if I drop the pan and change the filter? I did not drain the torque converter. It is a 1990 E4OD.

In the 1990 Truck Specifications Book it list the refill capacity for the E4OD as 16 quarts for F-Series 4x2 models,15.5 for F-Series 4x4 models,and Econline,and 13.5 for Bronco.These are total capacity.It doesn't list how much fluid will be in the torque covertor.I would drain all the tranny fluid-the new fluid will get contaminated mixed with old fluid.They suggest every 60,000 miles changing an E4OD's fluid.

The pan holds approxmately 4 quarts. But, as DeGideo says, just replacing the oil from the pan, the new oil will be mixed with the old oil in the converter, so you're really not making any headway. You're really just wasting 4 quarts of fluid.
