XM Power Source
I have attempted to use a fuse tap to direct power my XM XRC-9 AudioVox setup so that I can free up the cigarette lighter port. However, after a minute or two the unit just keeps recycling on and off like it is not getting enough power and resetting itself and trying agian.
How else may I go about getting a direct power source?

That is because the XM cigarette lighter plugs have a built in transformer in them. They convert 12VDC to 6VDC. You are running double the rated voltage to that tuner without the transformer. I am amazed it still works. Dont attempt to turn it on again without the transformer. You need the transformer inside the cigarette lighter plug. You can open the casing and solder wires directly to the transformer if you would like. That’s what I do with every one of my XM installs.
