Ok- I was just hanging out here at FTE with the History channel in the background and my wife turned to the channel that is televising the superbowl.
There is some kind of weird, extraterrestrial opening ceremony activity going on and it is being televised nationally and probably worldwide.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the following:
1. This is a football game. Yes it is the championship, but it is a game nonetheless!
2. In the grand scheme of things, it is not all that important. Well sure, it is important to folks living in Indy and the Windy City, but not really to any one else (except bookies and their victims)
3. I'll watch the game for the sake of watching the game, not for all the hoopla. I will spurn any of the over-the-top advertisements that I happen to see.
I really don't know where I am going with all this except to say that it is a GAME for crying out loud! Why all the nonsense?
Just play football, please!
sorry for the rant-I just see a lot of misplaced ambition and effort when I see all this BS. Imagine the funds that could be raised, the awareness that could be raised, the changes that could occur, etc. if the "powers that be" focused on some true social issues instead of simply making a buck.

Reason: remove "and STFU"
As soon as my Chargers choked in the playoffs I lost all interest. I'll find out the winner on the news later on, but I doubt I'll remember it 6 months from now.
i stopped watching sports years ago when i figured out there were more enlightening things to do, then i lost all interest all together shortly after that.
great post ckal, i am totally with you on this one. stfu and play ,and then do not forget you are being paid to PLAY! GET RID OF ALL THE BS play the game and hell with the show.
Oh yes, television. The big thing with the dust on it in the corner of the room...
I'm sure it still works, I watch DVD's with it once in a while.
I imagine the purpose of everything except the game is to provide all of those who no longer give a rats behind about the outcome with something to watch - on the order of pageantry - while they stuff themselves with pizza and try not to notice their great grandfather drooling on himself in the corner lazyboy.
I cleaned more of my yard today, and found I need to replace the chain on my new McCullough saw. Even a file wont help the teeth now - thorn wood is like rock!
