We used to get performance ECMs from Hypermax that came in Ford Motorsport boxes. We tried to get them through Ford and they claimed they didn't exist.

I've also heard about using the 94 factory turbo ECMs, but not sure how much it helps. My Buddy has a 94 turbo, and his tranny doesn't seem to shift much different as far as I can tell.

I put a B&M Electronic Shift Improver in mine about a year ago. It hooks up with two wires and changes the hydraulic pressure electronically. It doesn't change the shift points, but the shift is much firmer. It has 3 settings, off, 1 and 2. 1 is meant for daily driving, and 2 for towing. They recommend against daily driving on the 2 setting because the increased hydraulic pressure is hard on the tranny. I've never had any problems with it (knock on wood). They're about 40 bucks.
