New guy here and needing Help
I don't believe it is getting any spark. My son held his hand on the coil as I turned it over. It didn't shock him so I'm assuming it something electrical.
Also poured some gas into the carb not even sputter. I've been told to check the ignition module but can not find anything that even remotely looks like one.
Any leads on what to look for next would be great.
Thanks in advance
Glen
Have you pulled the plugs to see what they look like. I had a little 84 Ranger and all of a sudden it would barely run. Pulled the plugs and they were extremely fouled up.
Another test is to try and spray some starting fluid down the carburetor...be careful and don't use too much...and see if it tries to run on the starting fluid.
When was the last time you gave it a tune up with new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor?
The coil has enough amperage and voltage and the potential of killing or hurting you.
Remember it's not the voltage as much as the amperage that can hurt you bad.
BTW, I agree with Bill, "NumberDummy" It's most likely the ignition module.
18,000 volts from the secondary ciruit of the coil and people are Holding on to them :confusing:
Check my 80's Truck album in my gallery (click my user name for access) for the instructions of testing you Ignition Modulator

also, Please put the actual topic in the title.
ie: No Ignition Spark
It helps us know what the thread is about and aids other users with searching.
We know you are new by looking at your post count.
I found pictures of two differnt types on the net and even bought one from the parts store. Just to make sure what I was looking for. I don't believe this truck has a typical Ignition module.
I put a cap and rotor on last night. Nothing. The truck was running just fine. No sputtering No lack of power or bogging. But it just quit as I was waiting for a car to pass and pull out of the drive way. I wasn't ******* it or anything.
I will try replacing the pick up coil. How deep is it in the distributer?
Thanks again Glen

Take a small screwdriver and lift the strap and pull the plug.
Note: you may just have corrosion build-up on the terminals of that connector.
It happens all the time with my Lincoln.
Just pull it out of the dist... clean the contacts and push it back in ..then try it
The ignition module is located on the side of the distributor. Factory ones have motorcraft stamped onto it.
It is held onto the distributor with two TORX headed screws.
If you dont have a set of TORX bits or drivers, it is wise to invest in a set. There are quite a lot of parts held on with these type screw heads on these trucks.
It has two bolts in the side that take it off. The problem is, most standard sockets won't fit. You can buy a special socket, or take a regular socket(I can't exactly remember the size, it might be 7mm) and grind the outside of the socket till it fits.
Thanks Guys

Sure thought it would be a Metric and not a standard.
Sorry Ken's 80 no pictures. But it does look like the one I posted a link to except the module was a greenish gray and the distributer had faded with some corrosion. Throw in a little dirt and oil and it looked like one unit. That and the fact I don't like to wear my glasses corn fused me
.Thanks guys for the help!!!!!
