Ok guys, tell me if i'm going about this all wrong but I am the type that likes to go through "Mock up" on a new build. I an trying to round up everything I need for this. I Emailed Vintage Air customer service to see how their warranty worked. It works just like I guess it should ( From date of purchase) But that would mean that the units warranty would run out setting on a shelf waiting on me to finish the truck.
Now for my question. Is there any templates or anything I could get to know what I need to do with my firewall or under dash area that would help and keep me from buying the unit now?
You could just buy the interior heater/vent box now, instead of the whole unit. That way, you can mount it under the dash and get the under-the-hood stuff later.
That's what I'm doing on my panel.
By the way, their instructions suck big time. Just vague diagrams of each section, with no order of what to do. I guess they figure that, since they know what to do, you should to!
It is my understanding (from Fatfenders56) that Vintage Air offers an empty underdash box for mockup purposes. When I installed a Vintage Air I asked them about the "build" time and they said the warranty would start when the truck was running. Seems like they had some sort of sticker that had to be sent in to the start the warranty but it has been a couple of years since the installationa and my rememberer only works for shorter periods of time. I think maybe the mockup box helps resolve the "build" time issue. You may want to call them again and inquire about it.
A mock up box would be perfect.
I was hoping the warranty did work like yours but I guess they changed their policy on warranties.
Buying just the inside parts would work too, but I think you get a much better deal if you buy a package. But is it a deal when you figure your warranty.
Thanks for the info and keep the good ideas coming, I'm going to need them.
I think when you buy the mockup box from VA they give you a credit for it when you later purchase the complete system as a package. At least that is what I remember from the conversation on here that Fatfenders56 participated in. You might try doing a search on "Vintage Air" and see if you come up with that thread. Or send a PM to Fatfenders56 about it.
