The front axle seal is leaking on the passenger side where it comes out of the pumpkin. Anyone else had this problem?
The questions I have:
-Can I replace this without tearing the whole front end apart?
-Would I be able to undo the tie rod then unbolt the flange to get the CV joint out?
-Is the axle from the pumpkin locked in with a clip or will it just slip out once the CV joint is removed?
Having done a few of these under warrnty '04 and up.... it is easier to pull the whole knuckle off but you can leave the lower ball joint in and and get just the right angle to pull the axle out of the hub. You will need to split the axle in two at the flange and match mark it. The strut needs to be moved, unbolt the top mount 3 bolts and lay it down with the knuckle out. sway bar link will need to come out as well other wise you will not be able to get stub shaft out. as for the shat ford used both circlips (pop out with slide hammer 4.0 hours) or a snap ring where you have to go inside the diff (8.0 hours) there is no way to tell until you start the job.
