forced air intake idea
What do you think of running an intake from the cowl wall right behind the carb on an 88? I know that there is a lot of air pressure inside the cowl and was hoping it would help force a little more into the engine. I carbed my 302 and it sits a lot lower than the efi stuff does and there is a lot more room under the hood. Plenty to run the ducting and filter box. Only thing i see as a problem would be water drainage.

If I was going to run a forced air intake I would run it from the grill. Remember as a vehicle moves down the road it creates a low pressure area along the body as the air moves over it, like an airplane wing.

Forced air doesnt work unless its set up for it. If you force to much air through a carb, the ventori doesnt work. (no Gas) Thats why a super charger or turbo charger draws air through the carb and than forces it in the engine. Now if you have fuel injection, thats another story.

I have done this. Pulling from the cowl is higher than the stock location and there in nothing to tear off on a trail like a snorkle. There is positive pressure there from the windsheild and thus why there are cowl induction hoods for Stangs, as an example. The cowl has drains on each side for water, Go for it, it works as a great source of cool clean air under a little pressure.
I had the thought of making a hole but instead removed the HVAC system and draw from where it used to. I don't need AC and have installed an aftermarket heater.
